Indiana Jones 7" scale Disney Exclusive Figure

OK, so here he is. The Indy fan community has been going nuts for this since he was announced in ToyFare last month. And now he has arrived!!!! This guy is an exclusive Disney figure, available at the Disney Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost Disneyland. Before you turn your noses up, this figure is MUCH improved from the previous Disney Indy figures (although I like them as well). This time, Gentle Giant is stepping into the ring to give the good Dr their best shot. So, lets get down to business.

PACKAGING: Standard old school blister pack, which is HUGE, due to the size of the figure and the base. The card is 14" tall. We get standard art on the front, nothing too exciting. Then, on the back, we get a full size picture of the figure. Ho hum. 2.5/5.

SCULPT: Gentle Giant is responsible for this guy, and they have done pretty well. He looks alot like a young Harrison Ford, and I have to say that I am impressed with all the details in this sculpt. The figure's jacket, pants, and shirt are full of stiching, wrinkles, and other cool little touches. The proportions of the figure are a little bit cartoony, with slightly larger than they should be hands. This is a minor gripe. The jacket is rubber, and the gas mask bag is a separate piece, not sculpted onto the figure. He also has a sculpted holster for his gun, which is not usable.

He is a pretty big guy, standing in well with your 7" scale figures. Overall, the sculpt is like a Mezco figure, i.e. a little cartoony, but pretty solid overall. 4.5/5.

PAINT: Pretty solid as well. Very little paint slop, and there is some great weathering on the clothes and jacket. No complaints. I like the 5 o clock shadow. 4/5

ARTICULATION: Hinge jointed head, which only allows him to look up or down, not side to side. WTF? Other than that, hes pretty poseable. ball jointed shoulders, hinge elbows, swivel wrists, swivel torso, ball and hinge hips, hinge knees, swivel ankles. pretty solid, but the head thing is STUPID. 3/5.

ACCESSORIES/BASE: This is where the figure really stands out. He comes with removable hat, pistol, whip, Gold Idol from Raiders, Cairo Swordsman sword, Lao Che poison antidote from Temple, and his father's Grail Diary. He also has the gas mask bag, but this is put on in such a way that removing it could damage the figure.

The base is MASSIVE, recreating ancient ruins. It's roughly circular, and is almost a foot across. stone blocks jut out from the ground, stacking up to above Indy's head. Bamboo shoots plug into the ground, and a large pillar stands behind him. This is by far the biggest base I have ever seen for a 7" scale figure. Normally, this would be about 2/3 of a box set from NECA or McF. It looks great, and Indy looks great standing on it. The only flaw, is that there is no foot pegs. Indy just has to stand there. Which he can, but I would prefer a sturdier base. I am going to drill some holes in the feet of mine, and have him standing on a McF stand on the included ruins base. 4.5/5.

VALUE: This figure, even as an exclusive, with tons of accessories and a massive base, retails at the park for $12.95. That's less than most retail locations sell NECA and DST stuff. With the quality of the figure, the included accessories, and the base, you simply cannot go wrong with this guy. And until Sideshow comes out with their Indy, this is the best official Indy figure EVAR. This guy is highly recommended.
