Jack Bauer from 24 Series 2 (Review)

Jack Bauer, the quintessential badass of the hit show 24. He's been immortalized in plastic a few times this past year as a Minimate, a 12" doll and as a 6" scale figure from McFarlane Toys. Today we're going to take a look at the second Jack Bauer by McFarlane.

As expected, the figure featues a solid sculpt and good paint applications. This version of Jack has a much more accurate head sculpt than the previous release. It's not 100% Kiefer, but it's pretty damn close and I'd say closer than the human David figure from Cult Classics. Jack doesn't really have hair like this, so that's a bit of a problem but not a big one. The paint effects used to create the denim effect on the pants work and work well. The drybrushing is well done. The skin tone is well done. The hair could be better, however it's not a major problem.

Articulation on this guy amounts to what Jack is just as comfortable with if he doesn't have a gun, his mitts. There's only 4 POA and they're cut-joints at the wrists and a bicep cut so you can move his arms a bit. This should be expected considering the sculpt. He's kicking down a door and he's going to kick this door like a champ tomorrow and every day from now until the end of time. The head is not articulated, and it doesn't appear the ankles are either even though I got a bit of twist on them. That head sculpt doesn't match the kind of face I picture Jack giving while putting his boot to a door. Minor issue.

The accessories amount to Jack's silenced sidearm which is a remold of the one from the first Jack and an elaborate door base. The doors has holes from gunshots, the spent casings are on the hallway floor Jack stands on. It's also buckling in at the point of contact while it's barely holding where the remaining locks are and there's a few of them. Yes, you can get Jack's foot to touch the door if you want it to.

Why would you?

Well, it looks good and because Jack Bauer doesn't kick doors twice... unless he wants to.

It's solid piece, great for any 24 fan. It's also your best chance at getting the head to make a better version of Jack #1 and leaves you with a great door for a Resident Evil diorama. I give Jack Bauer 2 a 3.5 out of 5

That's due to his solid sculpt and great base. With a bit of articulation or a different pose, that head sculpt could have netted a 5.
