Well, well, well... he's finally here. The RE 10th Anniversary Series 2 Transworld Exclusive Lab Coat Zombie. It's about time, too. I was starting to have an aneurysm waiting for this guy to show up. Let's take a look at him, photos courtesy of my favorite Spliffasaurus Rex.
At first glance, he's mostly a rehash of the body used for the Series 1 Zombie which was rehashed for the Series 2 Crimson Head Zombie. You'd be wrong to think that. They only really reused the legs. This guy sports a new head, torso and arms, The head is pretty good looking in my opinion. It's just creepy enough.
The rot on the arms works well, even if the paint applications could have been better. That's a fairly common thing with NECA, especially with the Resident Evil line. A bit of slop here, overdrybrushing there, but this particular figure seemed to fair better than others.
He comes with the disk base the other zombies did, and he needs it. This guy doesn't seem to be able to stand on his own as well as his predecessors. That's another common NECA flaw, but I'm used to it by now and I've found that the plain black base tends to look a bit less bland with a few sprays of custom mixed blood splatter. On the plus side, he's got fairly tight joints and seems a bit more durable than, say, Kratos. That's probably because of the minimal articulation. Only a few points, which are enough that he can be posed a few ways. Unfortunately, that reused part from the waist down locks you into having to deal with yet another instance of that familiar off-balance leg pose.
Keeping with the tradition of the other zombies to a small extent, LCZ comes with a smaller creature from the RE Universe. That's right, we've finally got an Infected Crow. If it wasn't infected before, it's almost certainly infected after taking a chunk out of the likely infected severed hand it stands on. It looks decent, and it's a nice change of pace from the Cerberus dog variants we got with the other two. Another Crow would have been even better and added to the variety.
Overall, I'd say that the LCZ is a solid zombie figure despite it's faults.
I give it a 3 out of 5
